SH2-48 (Sharpless 48 )

This small but brighter nebula is overlooked my many imagers and for good reason, just next to it is SH2-49 or otherwise known as TheEagle Nebula which the outer parts of that object are seen here in the upper left area. But this small Sharpless offers a lot for the larger telescopes because it has nice structure around it. Those with a wider field of view can pick up a number of smaller objects around this one such as SH2-50 and SH2-53. The entire area responds best to the hydrogen-alpha filter and makes for a great black and white image with high contrast. But the nebula is bright enough to pick up well with the red filter so a standard RGB color image is not out of the question. I did not get anything much from the oxygen III filter so I don’t think this is a good one for narrowband color.
