SH2-306 (Sharpless 306 )

This nebula is part of a group including other Sharpless objects; you can just see sh2-309 in the lower corner of this image. This nebula is somewhat bright when talking about the overall kind of objects in the Sharpless catalog. But it still needs a good exposure with a hydrogen-alpha filter which it seems to do well with. The red channel in the RGB filters was the only thing that picked up any detail, but it was very faint. The oxygen III failed to pick anything in a 15 minute exposure so this is not a great choice for narrowband color. Because of the other objects around this one, a large format camera and a wide field optical system would have much to pick up in the northern constellation of Puppis.
