SH2-263 (Sharpless 263 )

SH2-263 lies near another dim Sharpless object, SH2-265, and the two can be picked up with a large field of view of about 3x2 degrees. Both objects are not very bright and record well with the Hydrogen-Alpha channel if given enough time. SH2-263 is the brighter of the two and also has a nice reflection nebula around it, which makes using the H-Alpha filter unnecessary unless you want to pick up the nearby nebula which is mostly red. By using an HA-RGB image and an RGB image, you can create a composite that preserves the reflection and at the same time uses the HA channel to enhance the red. A large format camera, a larger telescope, and a lot of time should reveal a very nice image of a nebula with a mixed emission and reflection nebula. Using a field of view of about three degrees, you will get both SH2-265 and SH2-263. This image was published in Astronomy Magazine August 2008.

The image below was taken using an TAK E-160 F/3.3 and the SBIG STL-6303.   This was a lille short of an exposure because the nebula around SH2-265 and SH2-263 (on top) is rather faint.  The nebula on the upper left is getting close to Sh2-264 (Orion's Head)
