SH2-25
(Lagoon Nebula
)
Sharpless 25 is also known as the famous Messier 8 or Lagoon Nebula. This object is great for any imaging system used. Wide field systems can pick up not only the Lagoon Nebula but lots of nebula in the region. Large telescopes will need to have a large format camera to pick up all of SH2-25. Narrowband filters really only work best with the brighter area of SH2-25 (Messier 8). Hydrogen-Alpha filters will help pick up the fainter nebula but the standard color CCD filters do nicely. This image is a two image mosaic because of the field of view I used and I turned it 90 degrees so north is left. Some of the older planetarium software mistaken the left area as SH2-28 which is next to Sh2-30 otherwise known as Messier 20.
