SH2-190
(Heart Nebula
)
A famous and very large object, SH2-190, more commonly know as the Heart Nebula, is rich in all the narrowband filters and is a favorite with narrowband imagers. However, the nebula is very bright, so even a standard filter set will do very nicely here. When using a hydrogen alpha filter, you pick up the very fine detail and structure seen in these images. The nebula responds very well to OIII, so sulfur II for red, H-Alpha for green, and oxygen III for blue works very well. Using a larger telescope, you can choose the brighter areas and create a very nice HA-RGB or narrowband color image. The bright nebula area on the right side of the image is NGC 896, which by itself is a great image for those with a smaller field of view.
