SH2-171 (NGC 7822 )

Sharpless 171 is a high northern object that is popular among CCD imagers mainly because it has nice structure and picks up well in any imaging system. This Sharpless object also includes the nebula that is north (to the left in this image) that is not part of SH2-171. NGC 7822 is the large loop which this entire area is usually referred to as. If you enjoy narrowband color imaging, this area is rich in OIII, so it is a good narrowband color image to try. However, only the brighter area on the right side works well with the OIII. The narrowband image was taken with an ST-10 XME whereas the color image was taken with the STL 6303 XE. This image was published in Astronomy Magazine November 2007
